Industry We Serve
The residential real estate brokerage industry plays an enormous role in the American economy.
The U.S. has 3,531,837 square miles of land. There are approximately 140 million housing units. Each year, approximately 6 million homes are sold. The median price for homes sold in the U.S. is approximately $330,000. Homeownership stands at 68 percent, the highest rate since 2008.
There are just over 2 million active real estate licensees in the United States, 1.4 million of which are members of the National Association of Realtors. The U.S. has approximately 80,000 real estate brokerages, ranging from small mom-and-pop shops to multi-billion-dollar publicly traded entities and global franchises that operate on six continents and over 100 countries.
For the first time in 2020, the 10 largest residential real estate holding companies in the U.S. are evenly split between public companies and private companies. The public companies, however, account for more sales volume and hold higher rankings (by all three key metrics – sales volume, transaction sides, and agent count) than the private companies.
The nation’s 1,000 largest brokerages have almost 600,000 agents, which is 56 percent more than the number of the nation’s full-time firefighters, but 16 percent less than the number of the nation’s full-time police officers and just over half of the nation’s high school teachers.
With the U.S. housing market’s total value at $33.6 trillion the residential real estate industry is truly colossal. To place that in perspective, that number is equal to the combined annual GDP of the U.S. and China, the world’s two largest economies.
To the real estate professionals, brokers and agents, association and MLS executives, mortgage lenders, appraisers, title and insurance brokers, technology providers, and other service providers, that help make the American Dream possible for millions of families every year, we salute you.
We at T3 Sixty are humbled to have you as clients and to call so many of you friends.
